these are names Whitehorse shelter workers gave to some of the 802 animals they have rescued in the last two years. The shelter had a tent up at Rendezvous with photos and profiles of dozens of dogs, and cats.
There is a huge problem with animals, especially dogs, being abandoned and abused up here. Especially in the smaller communities, sometimes if owners can’t afford to feed their dogs they just shoot them.
As well as the ‘adoptable’ dogs, there was also a photo wall of dogs who have been adopted out. Some of the names had been crossed out or added to, where owners had stopped by the tent and seen the shelter photos of their pets.
My housemate’s dog, a blue heeler, was on the wall. Then she was called Chaos but now she’s called Ruby.
The snow sculpture below was also done by my housemate and her team — I came down to Rendezvous to bring the sculptors tea and snacks, but they had finished in record time and were gone!
The other photo is also from the local division of the snow sculpture competition. I though the kids in the car were cute.
